Last weekend in Beavercreek, Ohio, boys Hononegah Indian bowler Charlie Hunt took home the 2023 U.S. high school singles national championship. Charlie beat Caden Plate of Oak Creek High School in Wisconsin 264-238.
Charlie had to fight through five rounds to get to the finals. He competed against bowlers from coast to coast.
The 2023 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship TM was a three-day competition featuring both "Singles" and "Team" events in both boys and girls divisions. On Day 1, all high school teams competed in the "Team" event in their respective divisions. Day 2 and 3 saw all bowlers compete in the "Singles" event, also in their respective divisions.. The competition is a USBC Certified tournament.
Charlie Hunt was coached by Brad Sommer & Larry Moore during the event. Charlie had a qualifying round total of 783. Once he reached the knockout round, he had scores of 493, 247, 279, and 249 which got him to the national championship winning final.
