Maple Elementary School remembers the Lunch Lady

Sharon Denny (1947-2023)

Sharon L (Shari) Denny was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Lester and Alice (Papworth) Dittbenner, on September 5, 1947. Sharon married Glenn R. Denny in August 1978, in Loves Park, Illinois.

She was employed as “the lunch lady” at Maple Elementary School in Loves Park until her recent illness.

Shari died peacefully in her home in Roscoe, Illinois on May 22, 2023, surrounded by her immediate family members.

She was a homebody who loved crafts and sewing. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Shari is survived by her husband Glen, children, Jeffrey (Debbie) Denny, Gretchen Backunowicz, John Reynolds, Jessica (Matthew) Fleming; grandchildren, Bradley (Kim), Daniel (Megan), Ariel (Shawn), Jeremy, Zac (Shantal), Adoria and Jacob.

She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, children Bradley Denny and Joseph Reynolds, brother Charles Dittbenner and sisters Donna Hartwig, Ruth McGraw, and Carol Emanuel.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023 in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL, with a visitation from 5 p.m. until time of service. A private inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in Shari's name.
