A grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will allow the Winnebago County Highway Department to extend the Perryville Bike & Recreation Path another 3/4 mile, from Willowbrook Lane to McDonald Road, eventually connecting to the Village of Roscoe's Porter Park.

Construction of this latest section is expected to take place in 2025.

The project will be an extension of an existing 9-mile, 10-foot-wide asphalt shared-use path along Perryville Road.

In total, according to TrailLink, the Perryville Path is already nearly 15 miles long, reaching Rockford and Loves Park, and connecting with other trails that lead to Rock Cut State Park, Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza, Rock Valley College, Midway Village, and CherryVale Mall

Thanks to two earlier ITEP grants, the Perryville Path was extended at Rock Cut from Hart Road to IL 173 in 2022. In the summer/fall of 2023 it will be extended from Anjali Way to Willowbrook Lane.

The $553,500 grant was part of Cycle 15 of the 2022 Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) [PDF], which received 215 project requests for over $339 million. $127.9 million in Rebuild Illinois funds have been awarded through ITEP.
