Natural Land Institute staff will lead groups on a hike through the rolling hills of prairies and woodlands of Burr Oak Valley Nature Preserve and talk about the importance of oak ecosystems, remnant and restored prairies and the process of restoration that has taken place at this preserve.

Burr Oak Valley Nature Preserve is private and there are only a few opportunities throughout the year to see it. 1) If you are an NLI member you can request to visit it, 2) anyone is welcome to help at a volunteer restoration day, or 3) you can attend a guided tour like this fall OAKtober Hike event.

The tour lasts about one and half hours. Moderate to difficult level hiking. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots.

Location/Parking: Burr Oak Valley Nature Preserve, located across from Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 7404 Elevator Rd., Roscoe, Illinois. Limited parking on site with parking available also at the church.

Admission: $5 for non-members, $10 per family (includes a one-time 6 month introductory membership), Free for NLI members.

Registration requested by Fri., Oct. 28.
