Richard Bolander: a builder for others

Richard helped repair and rebuild after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Richard Bolander, 89, of Rockton, IL was an inspector at Beloit Corporation for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Beloit, where he actively participated in building and repair projects for the church and state Baptist facilities. He also participated in multiple types of mission work, building and traveling to locations such as Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina

Richard passed away on September 23, 2022. He was born on May 8, 1933 in Roscoe, IL. He married Bonnie Bolander in 1958, with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage in 2014 before her passing. 

He was a longtime member of the Midstate Jeepster Association and enjoyed supporting the needs of local parades with his Jeepster. He enjoyed camping, as well as family and friends spending time talking and laughing.



He is survived by his children, Jeff (Linda), Bob (Pat), Tim (Stephanie), and Carrie (Tim); 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family thanks with deepest gratitude his personal caregiver and friend, Ginger Olson. The family also thanks his network of caregivers through Comfort Keepers, In Home Medical Group, Highview in the Woodlands Assisted Living in Rockton, and Northern Illinois Hospice for their compassion, gentle nature and kindness.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 – 6 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe with a service following at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Northern Illinois Hospice.
