Fire department carries out water rescue

On Tuesday afternoon  at approximately 4:20 p.m, the Harlem Roscoe and Rockton Fire Departments were dispatched to help an injured swimmer in a quarry off Prairie Hill Rd.

Initially, fire personnel had to use a conveyor belt walkway to reach the patient until they could put him in a rapid deployment watercraft using a stokes basket.

Once on shore, reports Harlem-Roscoe Fire Chief Don Shoevlin, they gave him  further treatment before transporting him to the hospital.

Chief Shoevlin says, "Quick action and thinking by fire department personnel made this unordinary rescue seem like we deal with it on a daily basis." Photos by HRFD photographer Sheryl Drost.
