An early morning residential fire on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022 caused extensive damage to a home in the 3900 block of Joan Drive in Roscoe, off Tresemer Road east of Hononegah Forest Preserve. The three occupants had already escaped the house when Rockton firefighters arrived shortly after 2:17 a.m. Fire crews rescued the family dog from the basement.

The fire destroyed the garage, with the two cars inside, and damaged the house, making it uninhabitable for now. The Red Cross will make sure the family and pets have a place to stay after the fire. We have contacted them to see if the community can help.

As soon as crews arrived, the fire engine operator made the initial knock down, pumping water through the high-pressure deck gun on the top of the engine. Inside, firefighters made an aggressive attack with hand-held hoses and other tools. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Crews spent several more hours extinguishing hot spots. Damage estimates have not yet been determined and the fire is under investigation.
