Big winners in election include Kurlinkus, Gustafson
Incumbents did well in South Beloit and Rockton, but not in Roscoe.
Tuesday's Consolidated Election resulted in victories for longtime members of the Hononegah School Board. Challengers had claimed the board ignored parental concerns, but didn't find enough voters who agreed with them.
In what seems to have been a respectful campaign on all sides, four current members of the South Beloit City Council had the highest unofficial totals on Election Night.
But challenger Rob McLain was only six votes behind incumbent Ken Morse, so after all mail-in votes are counted, McLain could wind up in office instead of Morse. Residents were allowed to vote by mail as late as Apr. 4 and the results will be certified two weeks later, on Apr. 17.
On the Village of Rockton Board of Trustees, a former trustee will rejoin two incumbents.
The current Prairie Hill School Board president will be joined on the board by a Golden Apple Award winner. But again, the totals for the third position are very close, with Justin Keller "Keller the Science Feller" at 282 votes, Jared Eischeid at 272, and Joshua Ballard at 271.
In the Village of Roscoe, probably the Stateline's most bitter contest, the incumbent Village President lost his post to another trustee. The three members of his opponent's slate also received more votes than the three current officials on the incumbent's slate, changing the leadership of the Village of Roscoe.
Voters approved a small tax increase to fund pensions for the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District. Taxes on a single family residence worth $100,000 would increase by 48 cents a year.
