Dave Kurlinkus wants to continue as HCHS Board member
Kurlinkus taught high school for 15 years, became an attorney, and was elected to the Hononegah school board in 1995.
Dave Kurlinkus has served on the Hononegah Community High School Board of Education since 1995. He was elected board president in 1997, and has remained as president since that time.
Dave is seeking reelection again this term because he feels he still has skills to bring to the table and has ideas for the future of Hononegah Community High School.
Dave has educational experience, having taught English and journalism at Jefferson High School in Rockford. After teaching for 15 years, he changed careers and became an attorney in 1995.
He and his family lived in Rockford for several years, but moved to Roscoe because he and his wife wanted to raise their four sons in the Roscoe/Rockton and Hononegah school systems.
As a board member, he has been an advocate for the public school system.

Dave wants to continue to be proactive and make sure academic excellence continues at HCHS. “Staff members and students are very proud to be a part of the school. I want to make sure Hononegah remains Hononegah.”
As a board member, he wants to continue keeping the emphasis on education, and make sure the environment is safe for Hononegah students and faculty. “We are vigilant. We constantly review security in the schools.”
“In regard to major issues, we (the board) are the support system. We don’t spend time in the building.”
“We rely on the superintendent (Michael Dugan) and Principal (Chad Dougherty) to make recommendations;we are not the problem solvers.”
“In other words, our role is being on the balcony, while teachers are on the dance floor.”
There are seven people vying for three seats open on the Hononegah Community School District Board, including incumbents Evan Schoepski, Mary Lewis and Dave Kurlinkus.
The challengers are Nadene Kelly, Jennifer Maragia, Joan Zimmerman, and Brian Huff.
At the first board meeting following the election, officers will elect their chairman.
Dave emphasized: “Being a member of the school board is one of the most important jobs out there. I would like to continue in that role.”
