Roscoe Village trustees remotely consider remote work policies
A Village of Roscoe meeting, viewed over Zoom, June 2021

When the Village of Roscoe trustees at their July 19 meeting discussed setting a remote work employment policy, half the trustees  were not physically present. For the back-to-back Board of Trustees/Committee of the Whole meetings, Justin Plock, Anthony Keene, and Michael Dunn attended the meeting remotely via Zoom. Trustees Carol Gustafson, Sue Petty, and Stacy Mallicoat were present at Village Hall.

The Village of Roscoe board holds hybrid meetings, where board members and the public can participate either in person or remotely by Zoom. For work or health reasons, at times some board members have attended meetings remotely for months.

At this time, there is no remote work policy in place for Village employees.

"How do you judge productivity when people work from home?" trustee Carol Gustafson asked.

Trustee Stacy Mallicoat said in some cases, working from home can be very productive.

The consensus was to put a policy together that would allow working at home in particular circumstances such as bad weather and family health issues. The policy would not allow working from home on a permanent basis.

Discussion on the policy will continue at the next Village meeting in August.

At the Committee of the Whole meeting, a special event permit for the Roscoe Lion’s Club Fall Festival was recommended for approval. This is the 112th year for the event to be held at Leland Park, Sept. 9-11.

Reconstruction and improvements to roads into the Roscoe Public Works department complex on Swanson Road was discussed at length. The trustees and Brandon Boggs, Roscoe's Village Engineer, recommended landscaping, fencing, and strengthening entry roads.

More discussion will take place at the Aug. 3 meeting.  The general meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Committee of the Whole meeting.

At that time, the board will also review trick or treat hours.  Last year, the Halloween celebration was held on the Saturday before Oct. 31.  There have been requests by Village residents to bring the trick or treat event back to the traditional Halloween date.
