August 29 marked the very first game of the SOBOs 2025-2026 boy's football season. The same could be said for that night's opposing team, Christian Life's Eagles. Not only did the SOBOs show the crowd a great game, but South Beloit got its first look on both their cheer squad and marching band.

Before and during some sections of the game it got a bit rainy and much of the crowd carried umbrellas, but the poor weather didn't make for a poor SOBO performance. For the first half, the SOBOs did great with quarter scores of 13-0 and 26-0 respectively. In this half we saw amazing performance from junior player #1 Chase Herrington and senior player #82 Kaden Cook.

Alongside Kaden and Chase's performance, senior player #4 Cameron Meister made his voice heard and guided his teammates both on and off the field. Another notable player, senior player #9 Daniel Winterland, posed a serious threat on defense, delivering fatal attacks to the Christian Life Eagles.

By the gates, sweaters and t-shirts for the season were for sale thanks to the SOBO Athletic Club. If you prefer to buy the designs available from Walnut Creek Apparel & Gifts, both sources help fund the football team and SOBO sports as a whole.

Half-time was hardly a boring time either, with the South Beloit marching band presenting this year's Fall Out Boy themed marching show, "THNKS FR TH MRCHNG SHW" (Thanks For The Marching Show). Along with that, the cheer squad showed off what they learned from summer practices.

To finish off the night, South Beloit continued to muffle any attempts by the Eagles to make it to end zone, pushing all the way to third quarter with a score of 39-0. In the last minutes of the fourth quarter, the Eagles broke through and finished the game with a score of 46-8. After the game, I asked the football coach, Josh Redieske, what he thought looking onward at the rest of the season:

I think we're gonna be pretty good, I'm pretty optimistic for the future for the rest of these games coming up. We got Orangeville next week, it's a pretty tough game. I think we're ready, pretty optimistic.

I asked him how he thinks the SOBOs will perform against Orangeville, which he then told me:

I think we'll be favored and I think we should go out there and win, but they got a real good running back, so let's see if we can stop him first.

On that note, the SOBOs will be heading to Orangeville on Saturday, September 6th and seeing if they can keep to their word. The next home game for the SOBOs will be on another Friday night on September 12.
