Ken Morse was South Beloit's fire chief for 36 years, serving a total of 44 years with the department. He retired in 2017, accompanied by wishes like "Congratulations Chief, have a great retirement." But Morse  didn't completely stop working, at least not for long. These days, besides a regular second career job, he is completing his first four-year term on the South Beloit City Council.

Morse graduated from South Beloit High School and has since received additional training in emergency medical service, firefighting and disaster management.

Morse told the Beloit Daily News he's running for another term on the council because he wants the financial and economic health of the community to continue improving.

"I think over the last four years, we have made progress in growth," Morse said. "I would like to see the tax levels stay down while maintaining the level of service to the community. We’ve done very well in this rough time."
