Warm weather = golf season for Roscoe, Rockton and South Beloit
Higher temps means the opening of the 2023 golf season at Red Barn, Atwood Homestead, Macktown, and Ledges.
With the flip of the calendar to April, it makes me think about golf. It does help that the Masters is taking place this week as well. We are so lucky that we have so many great golf courses very near us.
Red Barn Golf Course in Rockton, 12379 Wagon Wheel Rd, opened the Top Tracer heated hitting bays on March 4. Earlier this week, they opened the course for play for the season. Tee times can be scheduled online here.
Atwood Homestead, built in 1971, is open and ready for play. Tee times can be booked online here. They are located at 8990 Old River Road, Rockford.
Macktown, 2221 Freeport Road in Rockton, is the oldest of the three local preserve golf courses, having opened in the 1930s. It’s a tighter course but still has lots of room for those of us who sometimes let our drives go sideways. It opens Saturday for play. It might be a bit wet to open the season, but the course dries out quick enough that you can score well early in the season. Tee times can be booked online here.
Ledges, at 7111 McCurry Rd in Roscoe, first opened in 1966. It's been a bit wet this week since opening, but they are working hard to get it opened for this Easter weekend. Tee times can be made online here.
Playability and availability are subject to the weather and course conditions. Contact each course to confirm conditions.
