Village of Roscoe may add another gaming venue on Elevator Road
The village board will hold three meetings on Tuesday, Apr. 2, 2024.
The Village of Roscoe Board, acting as the Liquor Commission, will consider an application at their Apr. 2, 2024 meeting [PDF] for a Class "BL" (Boutique Gaming) liquor license from JCET LLC at 5761 Elevator Road, next to Poison Ivy Pub. The building, owned by Steve Quies of Poison Ivy Pub and Elevated Terra Firma, was formerly the site of Faces Hair Studio and A+ Restoration. The gaming business, incorporated a week ago, will be called Elevator Slots [PDF], run by Cindy Shabez and James Gallagher, who live off Burr Oak Road east of downtown Roscoe.
Roscoe currently has twelve boutique gaming establishments. A Boutique Gaming liquor license, the most common, costs $6,000 a year. In total, the Village's 36 liquor licenses [PDF] bring in $142,000 each year in license fees, a fraction of the revenue that comes from the video gaming itself. Shabez estimates that 95% of her profits will come from gaming, 5% from liquor, and none from food or other merchandise. A proposed drawing of the business shows seven video game terminals, two tables, and a counter.
At the Jan. 26 Liquor Commission meeting, Village President Carol Gustafson summarized a request from Pietro’s of Roscoe for a Class “D” (On Premise Beer & Wine) license. Now that they have bought the whole building at 5724 Elevator Road, they planned to continue to serve pizza from their existing kitchen and use the rest for seating, gaming and a bar. That request was approved.
