Village of Rockton approves design review for Red Barn Golf Course

Village of Rockton trustees approved future plans based on  Red Barn Golf Course's design review at a Jan. 18 board  meeting.  Red Barn co-owner Richard Barnes submitted a site plan and elevations for a covered driving range to the Village's Planning Commission on Jan. 12, 2022.  The plan was approved unanimously by the Planning Commission.

Barnes is part of the Rag-Barn Real Estate, LLC. ownership, which purchased the golf course in May 2021.

There is an existing range at the course in the same location. No physical improvements to the site are to be made, with the exception of a concrete pad that was added in fall 2021.

Red Barn Golf Course was built in the 1950's as a nine-hole executive golf course complete with a full driving range. It was formerly a part of the Wagon Wheel Resort. It sits on  55 acres of rolling hills.

Red Barn has operated under the direction of LPGA professional Marianne Floberg-Kaiser since 1996. Though she and her husband are no longer the owners, Kaiser has requested that she stay on for at least five more years to continue as teaching pro and to help new golfers learn the game.

Sitting on the property are four outbuildings; a storage barn, plenty of room to add on for year round activities, a newer club house with a full liquor license and permission to sell packaged food. Also included on the property is all the equipment needed to operate the golf course.

The course utilizes a “Top Tracer by Top Golf” tracking system.

In a 4-0 vote Amanda McMahon was appointed to serve on the Stateline Mass Transit Districtboard. McMahon is the new assistant vice president and branch manager of First National Bank & Trust in Rockton. McMahon is filling the position on the SMTD board that was held by Bonnie Gundry. Gundry is the  former Vice President and branch Manager of FNBT who retired in December.

Trustee Scott Danielson gave a report from the Rockton Police Department. From January 1-15 there were 67 traffic stops, 40 warnings, 27 traffic tickets issued, seven criminal arrests, and five traffic accidents; two with injuries.

Trustees voted to enter into a field trial agreement with Axon Enterprises, Inc. They also approved a purchase requisition for J.J. Keller for online safety and equipment training for the public works department at a cost of $3,055. “This is a two year agreement offering OSHA ,(Occupational Safety and Health Administration) training,” Trustee Scott Fridly said.
