A 24 year-old Harvard resident, Matthew Jackson, has been identified as the victim of a fatal collision Saturday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2023 at McDonald Rd. and Sage Hen Trail in Roscoe, Illinois.

Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department and Roscoe Police were on the scene, as well as MD-1, a physician-staffed response vehicle from MercyHealth.

According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, Jackson was driving east on McDonald Road "at a high rate of speed" and collided head-on with another vehicle. Emergency personnel removed Jackson from his vehicle and put him in an ambulance, but "he was deemed to be beyond resuscitation." The emergency physician in the MD-1 unit pronounced him dead at 5:00 p.m.

Roscoe Police said the driver and passenger of the westbound vehicle were taken to a local hospital but they had not suffered life-threatening injuries.

Roscoe Police are investigating this crash. As shown in the Google Maps photo, Jackson apparently drove around a blind curve seconds earlier.

A previous version of this story gave the incorrect age for the victim. Matthew Jackson was 24 years old.
