The point of the season is to get quiet, to pay attention, to wonder, to listen well.
Believe it or not, this is not the Christmas shopping season, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and all of the frenzy of ads and sales notwithstanding.
This is the Christmas season, if you are a Christian. The point of the season is to get quiet, to pay attention, to wonder, to listen well, for something BIG is about to happen...
Two verses in John's gospel tell us what is coming:- "And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of Grace and truth," (John 1:14)- "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
God becoming one of us changes everything for all time. Yes, give gifts, yes, celebrate. But take time to wonder, to marvel, to ponder, to celebrate. Something wonder-full is about to happen...
