Strong spirits: our Father simply desires our company
We will always do our best when we are our best.
There are times when the best thing - indeed sometimes the only thing - we can do for our spiritual well-being is just to be with our Abba. When study, or worship, or service, or petition are inappropriate. When our great Father simply desires our company.
I suspect those times are far more frequent than we realize. Maybe, in fact, it is a standing invitation. Yes we have much to do! But really, what could be more important than intimate “be-ing” with the Almighty? Indeed, won’t all of our doing be better done for having been alone with the Great I AM?
“Be still, and know that I am God.” God, speaking through King David (Psalm 46:10).
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…” Jesus to his followers (Mathew 11:28)
“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters.” God, speaking through the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 55:1)
We will always do our best when we are our best. But more importantly, God wants to hang with us. Really!
