Strong spirits: why did he come?

Did you ever wonder why Jesus came to the earth?

Jesus didn't come to make us more religious, or to start a new religion.  He came to set things right between God and humans.

This is what he declared he came to do, sort of his mission statement, quoting from Isaiah 61:1,2:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed and announce that the time has come when the Lord will save his people."

After he read it, he said to those with him,

"This passage of scripture has come true today, as you heard it being read." (Luke 4:18,19, 21)

Strong words.  Challenging words.  Words that, if we are his followers, we need to get on board with.

This is what Jesus came to do.  This is what love looks like.  Are you on board?
