Strong spirits: one thing
Everyone has one thing that is most important to them. What's yours?
Four times in the Bible it states that there is only one thing that really matters. What could that one thing be?
David starts the short parade: "One thing I have asked of the Lord and that I will seek after - to dwell in the presence of the Lord all my life..." (Psalm 27:4) Jesus says it twice: "Mary has chosen the one thing that matters and it will not be taken from her." (Luke 10:42) and "You still lack one thing- go and sell everything you have and give the money to the poor..." (Luke 18:22) Finally, Paul gets into the act: "One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what Iies ahead, I press on to the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13,14)
So what is the one thing? It's God himself, and Jesus in particular. Jesus because he is the way to God. If anything or anyone is taking priority in your life over this one thing, over Jesus himself, at the very least your priorities are messed up. And at the worst, you are worshipping an idol.
