Strong spirits: focused

How focused are you?  What are you focused on?  What distracts you?

We live in a busy, crazy world, and even if you don't have ADD, staying focused is pretty hard.  People, activities, desires, and information all clamor for our attention.  Whatever we are doing, chances are good there will be distractions and interruptions.

It would be wise to ask ourselves, not just what is the focus of this day or this moment, but what is the focus of my life?  What or who is at the center of my attention?  For one who wants to live for Jesus, the answer is clear: He needs to be the center of my attention, he needs to be the focus of my life.

  • "Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith..."  (Hebrews 12:2)
  • "Whatever is true, honorable, lovely, gracious, just, and pure, think on these things."  (Paul the apostle (Philippians 4:8)
  • "You will seek me, and you will find me, when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13)

T.S. Eliot wrote of Jesus: "He is the still point of the turning world."  You needn't be at loose ends and constantly off balance.  Make him the center of your life.  As you do, your faith and joy will grow!
