Kirkland, IL - The South Beloit SOBOs got a dominating victory to open the 2023 IHSA football season 58-26 over Hiawatha. This was payback for the 60-20 loss last October 7, 2022.

Senior QB Kaden Myhres threw for three touchdowns in the opening half on Aug. 25, 2023, allowing the SOBOs to gain a 44-6 halftime score and putting Hiawatha way behind the clock and score for the remainder of the game. Two of the opening half TDs went to senior Desmond Hampton with a long of 78 yards as he was able to get behind the defense.

In the second half, South Beloit scored a couple of times on the ground with a pair of long touchdown runs of 30 yards and 48 yards to cap the scoring for the SOBOs.

With the  2023 IHSA  football season opener now in the rearview mirror, coach Jim Morrow and his team will begin to plan for Peoria Heights next Friday night September 1.  Next Friday’s game is again on the road and Peoria Heights dropped their opener on the season 62-14 to Polo. Peoria Heights plays in the 8-man Central conference.
