South Beloit came out strong and quick from the opening tip in their 1st round game of the 1A East Dubuque IHSA regional game against Stockton on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024. The SOBOS led 13-3 after the opening quarter and increased the lead to 30-14 at the half.

The home crowd stirred after halftime, but no worries were needed, as junior Ross Robertson and Desmond Hampton combined for 13 points in the 3rd quarter and shut down any thought Stockton had of making a comeback. With about 2:30 to go in the 3rd quarter and the outcome no longer in doubt, Ross Robertson went to the bench after getting knocked to the ground while driving to the basket.

The final quarter saw lots of young players come in and get some good floor time. Final score from South Beloit was 58-28. SOBOS win and continue on to play East Dubuque in East Dubuque on Wednesday night. East Dubuque beat Warren 61-44 on Monday night.

Coach Matt Stuckey mentioned that for South Beloit to compete and win its starts on the defensive end, they need to get tips and deflections. Another key for the defense is to recognize the shooters on the floor. On the offensive end, they need to make good passes and move the ball. Good passers makes  good shooters.
