South Beloit sophomore Richard Carlson named 1st Team All State by the IHSBCA

South Beloit, IL - South Beloit Sophomore Richard Carlson made history for the school earlier this week, becoming the first all-state baseball player for the SOBOs.

After helping South Beloit go 18-8 and 8-2 in the Northeastern conference this spring, Carlson was named to the 1A (IHSBCA) Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association first team. The only sophomore named to this year's first team, and as far back as anyone can locate, the only time this has ever occurred in South Beloit Baseball history.

Former Chicago Cub Hall of Famer Ryan Sandberg once said, “The reason I am here, they tell me, is that I played the game a certain way, that I played the game the way it was supposed to be played.” Speaking with South Beloit Head Coach Dominic Strangman on Wednesday evening, he described sophomore Richard Carlson in the same glowing terms. Saying, "Even after getting 13 or 14 strikeouts, he would want to talk about the two walks he gave up. He is always looking to improve himself and help his teammates improve, and he leads by his actions and words when needed."

The season stats for Richard Carlson is almost hard to believe unless you had the honor to watch him this spring. Check out the image to see his season stats.. Congrats, Richard Carlson, on the 1A first team All-State honor.

Thanks to Coach Dominic Strangman for his time, and thank you to the SB SoBos Facebook for the graphic used in the story.
