Roscoe Police say a late‑night disturbance at Porter Park escalated into a firearm being discharged early Saturday morning, though no injuries were reported and the suspect was quickly taken into custody thanks to coordinated police work across multiple agencies.
According to a press release from the Roscoe Police Department, officers were dispatched around midnight on July 18 to Porter Park, 6545 Windflower Lane, for reports of a large gathering and a possible fight. While officers were en route, dispatch advised that shots had been fired.
Police arrived to find that a physical altercation had occurred and that a firearm was discharged shortly afterward. “No injuries occurred from the discharge of the firearm,” the department stated.
A coordinated response followed. With assistance from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, Loves Park Police, and Rockton Police, officers located a vehicle nearby that witnesses had identified as connected to the suspect. The individual was found inside and taken into custody without incident. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
The suspect, Abdulameer T. Abdulameer, 20, was transported to the Winnebago County Jail and faces the following charges:
- Possession of a Firearm Without a FOID
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
Police emphasized that the investigation remains active but noted there is no danger to the public.
As always, all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
