What makes this game much bigger than the game itself is the fact it is Senior Night. For anyone who has ever participated in a sport or been on a team while in high school, Friday is an emotional rollercoaster. Starting out as a young freshman, you think four years is forever, then before you realize it, they have flown by and now it’s Senior Night.
As I write this piece, tons of emotions are stirring up in me that I haven’t thought of for quite some time. A few years ago, country music icon Kenny Chesney created a short movie called the “Boys of Fall.” He gave what I feel is the best look behind the curtain on what high school football is about. It’s about your teammates, the inside jokes, the early morning weightlifting sessions, the Thursday night dinners, the things that don’t come every day or week. As Sean Payton said in the movie “Boys of Fall,” this feeling of playing on Fridays doesn’t come every Friday, it comes when you get married and have kids.

As a fan and a lover of positive things for positive people, I wish every single senior gets to have one play or one moment they take with them for the rest of their lives. I also would like to thank them for every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears they have given to the football family. To the parents and guardians of the players THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the countless and unsung things you have done to make this time in their lives so great.
A tip of the cap and THANKS needs to go out to the seniors of the cheerleading squad as well, as they have cheered and danced for the crowd and team over their four years.
Thank you to Andrea Van Briesen, HFB Gridiron and Hononegah Cheer for the information and images.
