South Beloit National Night Out enjoys high attendance

Many attendees commented that yesterday's National Night Out for South Beloit held at South Beloit's American Legion enjoyed its highest attendance in recent years. The bingo hall was packed by raffle time. Even though the event started at 5, some South Beloiters arrived at 4:15.

Chief Truman

While speaking with Chief Adam Truman of the South Beloit Police Department, he mentioned that this event did not cost the taxpayers a single dollar. Which is impressive given that Chief Truman's efforts in police recruitment created a cost saving measure of $1,000 when hiring new police officers. All the funding, raffle prizes, and food was donated by local area businesses. At the food table were chips from South Beloit's very Axium foods. Papa Johns offered to donate a pizza to the event for every pizza they purchased. Even Chief Truman's 6th grade teacher at Cunningham Middle School, Evlynne Owens, sent the department a check for the National Night Out.

"I'm just so thankful for the community's support," said Truman.

Even more prizes arrived after the start of the event!

On site to highlight the South Beloit Public Library's community outreach were Elaine Isley, circulation assistant and social media coordinator, and Danielle Watson, program director, to highlight library programs and children's activities.
