Roscoe Rockton Junior Indians wrapping up the season with championship goal on the mind
"Play, Have Fun and Make Friends" is what the Roscoe Rockton Junior Indians is all about.
With the fall-like temps that we have had this week, it reminds us all that this football season is quickly ending. For the Roscoe Rockton Junior Indians football program, it means another hugely successful year teaching kids about football and providing valuable lessons that will help long after the playing days have ended.
On Thursday night, I had the honor and privilege to be at the last practice for the 6th grade (heavyweight) team. I spoke with head coach Ryan B. on Wednesday night. He mentioned that the team would be holding a fun and family-style event before Thursday’s practice. He said the moms of the players would be suiting up and tackling the boys onto a heavy mat. Just like the viral videos you may have seen on social media in the last few weeks.
When I arrived, what I saw was a lot of spirits, a lot of cheering, and most importantly a lot of great family time for the entire team. Also, lots of great tackles from the young ladies who suited up for the night. The tackling session had a lot of pads popping and boys cheering as their teammates got tackled by Mom. Some of the moms must have been watching the NFL as there was a lot of smack-talking going on about not picking up rooms, helping out with the dishes, or doing your chores.

After the mom’s tackling session ended, the boys returned to the practice field as they prepared for the championship game they have on Saturday, October 22 at 4 p.m. In fact, every level in the Roscoe Rockton Junior Indian football program has a chance to take home a championship. Looking at the entire NIFC conference, that’s quite an amazing feat.
