Roscoe Road Bridge to Close July 6 Through November for Reconstruction
The Roscoe Road Bridge over the Rock River will close July 6 for a months‑long reconstruction project that will shut down one of the area’s busiest east‑west routes through late fall, according to Winnebago County officials.
The bridge is expected to remain closed until November 2026 as crews complete structural rehabilitation work designed to extend the life of the crossing and improve long‑term safety.

County Engineer Carlos Molina, P.E., said the county is preparing for traffic impacts but will maintain access for residents who live near the closure.
“We will have signs that say bridge closed ahead, but will obviously allow local traffic up to River Street,” Molina said.

Closure limits at 251 and Bridge Street
The county confirmed that Roscoe Road will be closed far enough from the bridge to prevent through‑traffic from approaching the work zone.
When asked whether the road will be closed at Illinois 251 and Bridge Street, Molina said:
“Yes, the road will be closed at 251 and Bridge.”
Drivers will still be able to reach homes and businesses up to the hard closure near the river.

Updates planned, but no public meetings
Residents often ask whether major infrastructure projects include public meetings or timeline updates, especially when weather or construction conditions could shift the schedule. Molina said the county intends to keep the public informed throughout the project’s duration.
“We plan to have updates throughout the duration of the project. No meetings are planned at this time,” he said.
Traffic impacts expected
The closure is expected to push additional traffic onto Main Street, Hononegah Road and Prairie Hill Road as drivers seek alternate river crossings. County officials are encouraging motorists to plan for delays and watch for posted detour signs as the start date approaches.
