Students at Roscoe Middle School have been busy preparing for their annual Fine Arts Festival for the past several months. The 2025 spring music and art program was held Wednesday evening, April 23, 2025, in the RMS auditorium.

Several types of art work, created by sixth, seventh and eighth grade students were on display throughout the hallways and auditorium.

Art teacher Lily Picot displayed a variety of student art work on the windows at RMS. The drawings were created by sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Tables set up in the auditorium displayed more art, including sculptures and unusual pieces of art.

Lily Picot has been teaching at RMS for nearly 10 years. Students create their own personal art, using paper mâché, charcoal and acrylic. Nearly 500 art projects were completed this year.

One of Mrs. Picot’s students, Aubrey Hartwick, won a recognition award for her mask sculpture now showing at the Young Artist Show at the Rockford Art Museum. Students from 44 local schools displayed 250 works of art at the annual show.

The combined seventh and eighth grade band, under the direction of Diane Bolte, performed at the RMS Fine Arts program, Wednesday evening, April 23, 2025. The RMS choir, jazz band and sixth grade band also performed.

Down the hallway, music filled the air as the RMS bands serenaded parents and friends. The RMS choir performed three pieces. Following the choral presentation, the sixth-grade band, jazz band and the combined seventh and eighth grade band performed, under the direction of RMS music teacher Diane Bolte.

Braves Band Boosters presented scholarships to eighth grade students William Jarett, Jonathon Harms and Sean Blackburn.

Bob Nowicki and Keith Wickland, representing elev815, presented band-camp scholarships to three students, Ryan Zebrzeski, Madeline Foster, and Georgia Speer.

A slide show, presented by Randall Strandridge, rounded out the evening’s programs.
