The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged a 34-year-old Roscoe man with twelve counts of Possession of Child Pornography under Age 13. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, the Winnebago County Crime Deterrent Unit arrested Jose L. Genis Aldama in the 4400 block of Adele Street in Roscoe, Illinois. He was being held in the Winnebago County Jail.

His first hearing was scheduled for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Judge Brendan Maher of the Winnebago County 17th Judicial Circuit Court. Surprisingly, he was released until his next hearing on March 20 where he will receive his "Arraignment-Bill of Indictment." Presumably the judge determined he was neither a flight risk nor a threat to society.

The case began in August 2024 with a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, "During the course of the investigation, electronic evidence was collected." When police reviewed it, they say it contained "child exploitation material." Of course, as in any criminal case, the state's attorney still needs to prove the details of the charges against Genis Aldama. It was jointly investigated by the Winnebago County Detective Bureau, Illinois State Police, and The Illinois Attorney General’s Office – Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC).

Wisconsin court records indicate that Genis Aldama has a wife and child. A former resident of Beloit, he gave authorities a Beloit mailing address. He was previously charged in Rock County, WI with crimes such as driving with a revoked license and driving an unregistered vehicle. A Rock County judge issued a "Child Abuse Restraining Order" against him in 2011, which included a firearms restriction.

Depending on the circumstances and the content of the material, the crime could be considered a Class X felony, punishable with a minimum sentence of 9 years in prison and a maximum fine of $100,000.

The story has been updated to include his release from jail. A previous version of this story suggested the offense could be a Class 2 felony, which is less severe. Child pornography involving still photos, since it doesn't involve videos, could even be a Class 1 felony.
