Roscoe employee bonuses of $250 each will be voted on at Dec. 21 meeting
The Village of Roscoe plans $250 bonuses and lower insurance premiums in 2022.
As wages rise and unemployment drops, the Village of Roscoe has decided to improve its employee benefits, hoping to remain attractive as they find themselves more than ever competing in the job market. Residents are invited to review the appropriation ordinance, available at the Village Hall, which sets the 2022 budget and which will be voted on at the Dec. 21 meeting.
The Village budget includes $6,500 for end-of-year bonuses next year, so they can give $250 to each of their 26 employees. We regret that our previous article didn’t make the exact amounts clear. It has been corrected. Our previous article also mistakenly gave the wrong date for the budget meeting. The public hearing will be held Dec. 21 at 6:00 p.m. and the Village Board meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m.
As we reported last week, next year the Board of Trustees will pay 100% of the health insurance premiums for full-time employees of the Village. For spouses and dependents, employees will only have to pay 6% of the premiums.
This change in insurance premiums doesn’t immediately affect patrol officers in the police department. Their union, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), has to first agree to amend their contract with the Village (but why wouldn’t they?) The Roscoe Police Department has already been attracting seasoned officers from urban police forces, who want to make a lateral move to a quieter suburban environment while keeping their seniority.
Village Administrator Scott Sanders says the Village has recently lost employees who took jobs in similar fields “often because they could make more money” in a different organization. Some have even been tempted by job offers that are less interesting but pay more.
