Roscoe brings back its Hometown Holiday Community Celebration on Dec. 11
Lights, music, games, sleigh, and hot cocoa at the Hometown Holiday Celebration.
The Village of Roscoe, in conjunction with the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department and elev815, proudly announces the return of the Hometown Holiday Community Celebration on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 p.m.
Organizers invite families to "play games at the Fire Station, get your family photo taken in a vintage sleigh, listen to live music from the Hononegah High School jazz band and choir and the Roscoe Middle School orchestra. Enjoy hot chocolate, paint a holiday tree ornament, write letters to Santa, and join us for caroling as we light up the Village tree at 6:00 p.m."
The event is described as a "much loved small-town tradition." Its first official appearance was in 2017, but at the time, Village Administrator Scott Sanders told WIFR that it was "sort of a reinvention of a previous tradition." By 2019, with the help of elev815, the popular celebration included several events, such as Mrs. Claus sharing her favorite holiday stories with the children, a silent auction of decorated, hand painted seasonal wooden chairs to raise money for scholarships, musicians and singers caroling and serenading, and families toasting marshmallows at toasty bonfire stations.
This year, elev815 and the Village of Roscoe are planning activities in the downtown area, and Stacy Fry, owner of 3R’s Learning Materials Center, has offered to coordinate Christmas activities in the Main Street Square business center.
