A Walk Down Memory Lane - A Virtual Cemetery Walk
Mon Sep 30 7:00 pm, Rockton Township Historical Society Museum 529 Green Street Rockton IL, 61072
Presented by former Rockton Township Cemetery Sexton Jerri Noller.
The focus of this virtual cemetery walk is on those people who were instrumental in the growth of Rockton from the 1940s to the present. Many were business owners, educators or professionals in a particular trade. Every town or village has more than just residents that help move the area forward.
As cemetery sexton from 2005 to 2019 and part of the Noller family construction and service business in downtown Rockton for over 35 years, Jerri knew many of these people well. Her hope is to portray their addition to the growth of Rockton and add a bit of her personal knowledge of them or their remaining families.
The presentation will focus on Addition 2 which is located in the northeast section of the farthest north end of the cemetery near the river. The property was purchased in the 1940s from Sam and Mary Vaughn Dixon, the site where their home was located at one time. Remnants of the foundation remain to this day. Their daughter Dorothy Dixon Stone is a current resident of Rockton.
