- Illinois isn't the first place that comes to mind when you think of cactus. But there are cacti in the driest part of Nygren Wetlands, and Joan Edlefsen says, "I've been stalking the Eastern Prickly Pear for weeks waiting for it to bloom!" She finally took its picture. The preserve east of Rockton is open to the public each day at 3714 W. Rockton Rd. And Lucy Adrignola says Macktown Living History‘s medicine garden has blooming prickly pear too.
