Roscoe Gardening Club partnering with Talcott Free Library in planting seeds for future growth
A new partnership between the Roscoe Gardening Club and Talcott Free Library is helping lay the groundwork for future community gardening efforts.

- Prairie Hill Road will close to through traffic beginning Monday, Feb. 2, for replacement of the Prairie Hill Road bridge over the Rock River, according to the Winnebago County Highway Department. The closure will affect Prairie Hill Road between Illinois Route 2 (Blackhawk Boulevard) and South Bluff Road, near the Village of Rockton and the City of South Beloit. Local traffic will still have access on either side of the bridge. Work is expected to begin Feb. 2 and continue through the end of November, weather permitting. The length of the closure and construction schedule may change depending on weather conditions. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and use caution in construction zones.
- A South Beloit man is on work release after serving one year in Illinois prison. Jose Sandoval Tenorio pled guilty to child endangerment leading to death after he and his wife left their 9-year-old son unsupervised at their home with his 10-year- old playmate Aidyn Hansen. While the parents were out, their son found a hidden gun and shot Hansen through the heart. Sandoval Tenorio is serving an eight year sentence in total. Also, he lost a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by Aidyn’s mother.
- Former Hononegah Indian Dani Franz was recently recognized at halftime of the Lindenwood Men's Basketball game for achieving a 4.0 GPA in the fall semester. The sophomore plays softball on the Lions team who appeared in 24 games, making 14 starts, hitting two home runs and driving in nine during the 2025 spring season.
