Election surprises

Final results have been posted for the April 1, 2025 election, and it includes some final-count upsets.
- Roscoe Township Highway Commissioner Steve Schrier managed to keep his post after all, in a race against veteran Republican campaigner John Guevara. Guevara was able to get the rest of the Roscoe Republican slate into office but not himself. He told us, "I am supremely proud of the team and their success. And I look forward to the work they’ll do for the township."
- The chief target of the Roscoe Republican campaign, Elizabeth Lindquist, ended up losing by only three votes. Nobody in Roscoe Township government disputed her hard work, but she was the lone Democrat after all, in a township where 55% voted for Trump.
- Devon Pilz, and write-ins Sherry Hogan, Adam Neblock, and Ashley Newton were elected to the South Beloit School Board.
- When mail-in votes were counted, Independent Rickie Gomes ended up getting a place on the Rockton Township Trustee Board after all.

Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming north northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.(Forecasts courtesy of the National Weather Service).
