Staff sergeant at shortstop, Roscoe motorcycle tragedy

Laura Walton of Rockton, who graduated from Shirland and Hononegah, was positioned at shortstop with Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson for Armed Forces Day this past Saturday at Wrigley Field during the Cubs & White Sox game. In addition to being a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, she is co-owner of a gym in the Bloomington, Illinois area and works in the Crime and Intelligence Analysis Unit of the Bloomington Police Department.

A Rockford motorcycle crash Sunday night took the life of 42-year-old Jesse Owens of Roscoe. Around 8:15 p.m., he lost control of his motorcycle when riding northbound on Madison Street. He was pronounced dead at the hospital from head injuries. He lived on Morning Cloak Street.
