  • I'm excited to announce that Harold Bone, who has been sports editor and sales manager for the Rockton-Roscoe News, is taking on the responsibility of managing editor. I can already see he will be excellent at the day-to-day organization of our award-winning news outlet. After the transition, I still plan to stay involved, producing the daily newsletter, the weekly death notices, and helping out in other ways. I'm also excited about our new refreshed logo.
  • Hononegah's graduation ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the BMO Harris Center. You will not need tickets to attend the ceremony. It will also be livestreamed on Facebook. Doors will be opened to the public at 1 p.m. The ceremony should last about 105 minutes.
  • A Hononegah senior was released from Winnebago County Jail yesterday, in time for graduation. He was arrested early Wednesday morning after Rockton police found his car in the parking lot of Stephen Mack Middle School. In his car, they found a 12 gauge shotgun and shells, so they looked for him. The young man's family lives in a white farmhouse with a red barn west of Rockton. According to reports by WIFR and WTVO, the young man told police he was receiving threats at work and thought he might need the family heirloom "as a scare tactic,” but didn't plan to use it. Since this all happened at 2 a.m., Superintendent Glenn Terry told parents in an email, "There was and is no threat towards SMMS." The young man is scheduled to be arraigned on July 9.
