In the newsletter: spring roads, office closing, our death notices

Your Friday edition of Rockton-Roscoe News from Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit. Let us know what you think.
- Road postings for heavy trucks are lifted today. The Village of Roscoe says that because of the annual freeze/thaw cycles, the roadways soften up every spring, so heavy trucks are temporarily restricted on certain roadways. Seasonal weight postings became effective Monday, March 3, 2025. The period usually lasts 3 – 6 weeks depending on weather.
- Our weekly death notice, published every Monday, is our most popular feature. We like writing about people, and I enjoy sharing memorable facts about their lives. To create the article, I subscribe to notifications from most of the area funeral homes, as well as a weekly report from the County Coroner. From there, I figure out who had connections to farthest northern Winnebago County. And then I try to find clear pictures, usually from the funeral home. It tells you something about a person when their favorite photo is a tiny picture of themselves holding a huge walleye. I use AI face enhancement to clean up the blurries on those distance shots.
- RyComm Communications has closed its Rockton office on Hononegah Road. In a social media post, they said, "With the expansion of our clients across the nation, and the increased efficiency of remote work - we've made the decision to simplify." RyComm is owned by Ryan Rydell, who is the president of Stateline Baseball, the vice-president of the Stateline Chamber, event organizer for the Stateline Business Expo and Pour in the Park, and and a former candidate for Roscoe Township Supervisor.
