Rockton firefighters stop a blaze spreading to a South Beloit home
The fire was quickly knocked down, with one minor injury.
Chief Kirk Wilson and the Rockton Fire Department received a report of a vehicle fire on Monday morning, Mar. 11, 2024. But when they arrived at the 2000 block of Spencer Court at 11:40 a.m. the front of the van was engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading to the house. A neighbor had burned a hand trying to put the fire out, but didn't need medical treatment.
An automatic call for aid brought firefighters from North Park, Loves Park, and Harlem-Roscoe Fire Departments. Northwest Rescue was on medical stand-by.
When the chief arrived, the residents were standing outside, having escaped safely. Engine 1401 used their deck gun and stretched a working hose line to the fire. Fire personnel quickly put water on the fire while Engine 1403 secured a better water supply.
Rock Energy was notified to control utilities. Fire companies ventilated the building and made sure the fire didn't spread further.
Rockton Fire is still investigating the cause of the fire and could not give damage estimates at this time. Even though the fire was knocked down very quickly, the Red Cross was asked to find shelter for the two occupants.
Chief Wilson says, "Firefighters did a tremendous job getting this incident under control... Thank you to our automatic aid companies who assisted with the incident. Strong work by all."
