Robert Mohns coached and taught at Hononegah for 35 years

Visitation will be Friday afternoon Aug. 4, 2023, with memorial ceremony on Saturday.

Robert Mohns, 88, taught at Hononegah High School from 1959 until retiring from teaching in 1994. Bob also coached football and served as advisor for several extracurricular activities. While teaching math and science at Hononegah, Bob earned a master’s degree from Northwestern University. In 1965, Bob and Nancy moved into the house that Bob and his father built in Rockton.

He went to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

Born in June 1935 in Janesville, WI to Matthew and Alice Mohns, Bob was raised in Loves Park, Illinois. He attended Loves Park schools and graduated from Harlem High School in 1953.

Bob graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He met Nancy at Illinois Wesleyan and after he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, they were married in August 1960.

Bob was a member of Midwest Officials Association, active with the Harlem Class of 1953 Reunion Committee, and member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockton.

Bob is predeceased by his parents, and sisters Doris Crusan (Larry) and Delores Mattis, his sister-in-law and her husband, a niece, and two great nephews.

Survivors include wife Nancy, daughter Charlotte, son Carl (Cathy) and grandchildren Luke and Taylor, brothers Wes (Char), Bud (Pat), sister Phyllis Moore (Emmitt), 7 nieces and 9 nephews.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday , Aug. 5 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2336 Freeport Rd., Rockton, IL from 11:00 a.m. until the Memorial Ceremony at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Cassandra Langr officiating.  A luncheon will follow the Memorial Ceremony at the church. Cremation Rites were accorded.  Final resting place will be Roscoe Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or to Hononegah HOPE Foundation.
