Richard Moake loved helping his grandsons design Pinewood Derby cars

Richard L. Moake, 88, of Rockton, IL, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 17, 1934, the son of Newman and Vivian (Murphy) Moake. Richard married his sweetheart, Delores Untz, on February 27, 1954. He was a salesman for many years. Richard attended Saint Peter Catholic Church in South Beloit, IL. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Richard was a Boy Scout leader and baseball coach for his sons while they were growing up. He loved helping his grandsons design their Pinewood Derby cars. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling.

Richard is loved and missed by his loving companion, Virginia Marquardt; children, Robert (Lois) Moake, William (Jolyn Hess) Moake, Richard Moake, Jr, Patricia (Jeff) Tommerdahl; grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Nieves, Ashley Moake, Matthew (Amanda Carreon) Hale, Zachary (Nikki) Young, Bradley (Shay Bowser) Young; great-grandchildren, Savannah Nieves, Payton Nieves and Kayden Hale; brother, Jim Moake; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Delores, and sister-in-law, Carol Moake.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1-1:30 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a memorial service to begin at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in Richard’s name. The memorial service will be livestreamed on Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Facebook page.
