Rich Wilson: a man for all seasons
Celebration of Life will be Friday afternoon, October 3, 2025.

There were many facets to Richard (Rich) Wilson's life. He was curious, athletic, scholarly, and had a zest for life. He attended Hononegah Community High School, where he was a multi-sport star, and a scholar. He was a recipient of the George Kelsey Award and an All -State Illinois honors award in football. Rich received a full scholarship to play basketball at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in civil engineering.
Rich is remembered for his strong values and his deep love for his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Greater Rockton Community Center, 302 West Main Street, on October 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at the Rockton Cemetery, 307 Salem Road in Rockton, Illinois.
Rich was born May 4, 1953, to Jack and Ann Wilson in Janesville, Wisconsin. He spent his childhood in Rockton, Illinois. At the tender age of 13, he met the love of his life, Beth Wells. After graduating from Hononegah High School in 1971, the couple was married on August 19, 1972. Together, they moved to Bucknell, where Rich graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1975. Rich loved nature and the outdoors. He worked for the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service after graduating.
Rich and Beth eventually left the Midwest and moved their growing family of five children to Florida, where he founded Wilson Structural Consultants in 1997, with offices in Tampa and Sarasota. He headed the company for 28 years, until retiring in 1998. He left an indelible mark on the state's skyline through his work, but his greatest impact was on those with whom he worked. He was cherished as a mentor and a friend.
Several months ago, Rich was severely injured after falling off a ladder. His health declined rapidly after the fall. After spending several months in the hospital, Rich passed away on July 5, 2025, at the age of 72. He leaves behind his loving wife, Beth, his five children whom he loved dearly: Tony Wilson (Angela Wilson), Tim Wilson, Emily Jirout (Jan Jirout), Sarah Wilson, and Andrew Wilson (Dunja Wilson). grandchildren Mila Wilson, Evie Jirout and Juniper Jirout; and four grandsons: Luke Wilson, Jack Wilson, Banks Wilson, and Nike Wilson. He is also survived by his brothers James Wilson, Charles Wilson, and John Wilson, and his best friend, Fred Smith.

A scholarship in Rich's name has been established for graduates of Hononegah High School pursuing an Engineering degree. In addition, donations in his name may be made to The H.O.P.E Foundation in Rockton, Illinois, www.hononegahhope.org/donate.
