PINK OUT FOR BENNY
Resilience that has become BENNY'S rallying cry
Friday night, the Hononegah Indian community will trade its traditional purple and gold for a sea of pink in a heartfelt show of support for one of its youngest and bravest warriors—six-year-old Benny, a local kindergartener courageously battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of muscle cell cancer.
Benny, who recently celebrated his sixth birthday, is currently undergoing his fourth round of treatment. Despite the grueling regimen of chemotherapy and radiation, he continues to inspire everyone around him with his boundless spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering strength. His favorite moments include visits from therapy dogs, music therapy sessions, and the triumphant ringing of the bell after completing each round of treatment—a symbol of resilience that has become his rallying cry.
In honor of Benny’s fight, the Hononegah Booster Club is hosting a special “Pink Out for Benny” event during Friday’s home game against Belvidere North. The initiative aims to raise both awareness and funds for Benny and his family, who have faced the emotional and financial toll of ongoing cancer treatment. Jeff from Lighting Graphics will be on-site with his trailer, selling custom Pink Out shirts. Thirty percent of all shirt sales will go directly to Benny’s family to help offset medical expenses and provide much-needed support.
“This is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a chance for our entire community to wrap Benny and his family in love and solidarity,” said a Booster Club spokesperson. “We want them to know they’re not alone in this fight.”
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, grab a shirt, and fill the stands with pink. Whether you're a student, parent, alum, or neighbor, your presence will send a powerful message: that in OUR COMMUNITY, we stand together—especially when one of our own needs us most.
Let’s turn the stadium into a wave of pink and show Benny just how strong a community can be when it rallies behind a hero.
