Part of Gleasman Road to be closed beginning Tuesday
The duration of the road closure near Prairie Ridge depends on the weather.
UPDATE: The schedule for repairs on Gleasman Road has been revised. The Winnebago County Highway Department now says, "The work is scheduled to start the week of October 17, 2022 and is anticipated to be completed by November 30, 2022."
According to Andy Limberg, Winnebago County Highway Department, "Gleasman Road will be closed to traffic between Old River Road and Roscoe Road for a box culvert replacement adjacent to the railroad elevated bridge." The work was previously beginning on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. How long it will take depends on the weather. "Motorists will need to use alternate routes."
One alternative would be to take Old River Road or Roscoe Road anyway, but to stay off Gleasman Road. And IL Route 2/Main Street will also be open. Winding your way through Denali Heights or Hawks Pointe may not be advisable. Cutting through Prairie Ridge is not possible.

The total project involves two box culverts which were to be replaced east and west of Illinois 2 on Gleasman Road. The work starting on Tuesday focuses on the box culvert east of Old River Road and the Atwood Homestead Forest Preserve, by the railroad overpass near the Prairie Ridge subdivision. The other box culvert was between Rockton Ave and IL Route 2. In March 2022, County Engineer Carlos Molina told us that the total cost for both replacements was estimated to be $980,000. The Federal share would be $784,000 and the Winnebago County share would be $196,000.
