Sunday's special event at Macktown Living History takes visitors back to winter in the early 1800’s. The historic buildings and the settlement grounds will be open from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at 2221 Freeport Road in Rockton.  Everyone is welcome to participate in winter activities that were common in the Winnebago County's first permanent settlement, just across the river from present-day downtown Rockton.

What was travel, work and fun like in the winter? Find out! Learn about skiing, skating, snowshoeing and ice cutting and more. Hot cider and cookies will be served at the Mack House, which was built by pioneers Stephen Mack Jr. and Hononegah in 1839.

Macktown Living History hosts a special event each second Sunday. A special music event is planned for Feb. 12, 2023, with blacksmithing on Mar. 12, 2023.
