Obituary: Lawrence "Larry" Carl Rinaldo (1937-2021)

Lawrence “Larry” Carl Rinaldo, 84, of Roscoe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Larry was born January 12, 1937 in Rockford, IL, the son of Aleck and Rose Rinaldo. He was employed by Chrysler Corporation for 30 years when he retired in 1995. He served his country in the Air Force from 1954 to 1959. Larry was predeceased in 2018 by his loving wife of 62 years, Marion Rinaldo. They were married in her home state of Maine in 1955 .
Survivors include sons Larry (Chris) Rinaldo Jr., Aleck (Carrie) Rinaldo; daughter, Lori Rinaldo; and sister, Maryanne (Bruce) Peterson. He is predeceased by son Steven Jon Rinaldo and brother, Joseph Rinaldo. He is affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren: Amanda Hartman, Stephanie (Dave) Nethery, Anna Rinaldo, Heather (Josh) Kimes, Zack Steurer, Christina Rinaldo and Aleck Rinaldo, as well as great grandchildren, Joshua Kimes, Kaylyn Kimes, Joseph Rinaldo, Noah Hartman, Lucy Nethery, Mary Nethery, Gwen Nethery. He is also survived by his first love, Virginia Erickson, with whom he reconnected and shared the “very special” last year of his life. He was blessed with lifelong BEST friends Tom Capone and Bob Hatfield. In his younger days he loved to bowl, golf and parachute jump. “Papa” was an amazing man who was kind to all that knew him. He was funny and loving and always said his favorite thing in life was his family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe. The following day, a Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
