No Limits, All Heart: Roscoe Middle School Braves Roll Into IESA State
What do you get when you mix two 8th graders, two 7th graders and two 6th graders. Normally, I would say it would be chaos or some newer version of the 6/7 trend. However, the Roscoe Middle School Braves bowling team got a great mix of talent, teamwork, hometown strength and above all else, belief that they could and would overcome any obstacles as seen by others.

The six boys that comprise the Roscoe Braves bowling team are Parker and Grayson Surles - both 6th graders, Evan Scott and Jackson Wallace are 7th graders and the old men on the team are 8th graders Cooper Brechon and Jaxon Bone.
The thing that makes this an interesting story even more than the grade breakdown is that two members of the team have limb differences.
Seventh grader Evan Scott has been competing in bowling for about four or five years and is making his return to the IESA state tournament. He went as a 6th grader last year and is looking to improve on his first trip down to state. Evan is missing his left forearm and hand. He still swings with power and with accuracy. Evan is a multi-sport athlete as he has competed on the lacrosse field and the hockey pond. If you go to any of Evan’s lacrosse or hockey games, you will see an athlete who is tough and strong and doesn’t shy away from physical contact.
Jaxon Bone is an eight grader at Roscoe Middle School who was born without a fibula in his right leg and had surgery when he was young to remove his lower right leg and foot. He wears a prosthesis fully decorated in Green Bay Packers colors and logos. Jaxon also competes on golf courses throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Jaxon is a part owner of the Green Bay Packers and most everyday wears something with a G on it.
Both young men bring an ease and sense of determination that has rubbed off on their teammates and those competing against them. Make no mistake - their opponents understand not to take them lightly lest you get embarrassed along the way.
The Roscoe Middle School Bowling team starts its day at State on Friday April 17, 2026 at 1 p.m. in Joliet at the Town and Country Lanes. Follow all the action HERE.
When Cooper Brechon and Jackson Wallace were asked about their teammates, Cooper said, “They are my friends and they are fun.” Jackson Wallace said, “I wish we could play with them longer. I wish Cooper and Jaxon didn’t have to go to high school next year.”
Thank you to all the boys and their families on the team for allowing me to have some of their time this past week. Thanks to the coaches for being leaders and coaching them on the lanes and off the lanes. As a community we thank you!

“Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
