Nick Meshenny (1946-2021) loved antiques, old movies, and history

Nikolaj “Nick” Meshenny, 75, of Roscoe, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Dec. 26, 2021 at Javon Bea Hospital. Nick fought a two year battle with cancer. He was born March 24, 1946, son of Dimitri & Tamara Meshenny. Nick proudly joined the Navy in 1964 and later received and honorably discharged. He is a Harlem High School graduate, class of 1964.

Nick loved collecting anything and everything; he knew of every antique store within the surrounding area. He loved his old movies and his movie collection. He also loved history and any opportunity to share his knowledge with anyone who would listen.

Nick married Karen Hancock on August 9, 1969 in Rockford IL. They were happily married for 52 years. He is survived by wife Karen; daughter Tonya (Peter) Smoody of Oshkosh, WI; brother-in-law Melvin (Leck) Hancock of Dayton, NV; sister-in law Kathy (Dana) Reina of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law Mark Hancock of Machesney Park, and nieces and nephews. Nick is predeceased by his parents and his in-laws; Melvin and Charlotte Hancock.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mercy Health Cancer Center in Janesville, WI and at Javon Bea Mercy Health Center in Rockford, IL for all of the excellent care and compassion he received.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe with a memorial visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
